Emotional Freedom Technique
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique and has been shown on the television, discussed on the radio and in the national press. For those who have never heard of it EFT is often to referred to as tapping. It is fast becoming known in the public domain and tapping techniques have been demonstrated on local and national press, television and radio, including a demonstration by Paul McKenna on breakfast television.
Please note: it is not necessary to divulge difficult personal information in order to release emotional blockages.
How does it work?
Although there is no clinical proof it is believed that EFT works on the body’s energy system, which can retain positive and negative events (physical, mental or emotional). Examples would be a child who puts his hand towards a fire and is then scolded by his parent would have an emotional reason to avoid reaching for the fire again. Therefore effectively teaching that child to respect something that can be dangerous. The human body and psyche is truly amazing. Sometimes however, this safeguard can backfire a little, as in the case of the child who rather than learn to respect the fire might actually be so alarmed that they become an adult with an irrational fear of fire …or needles or spiders or whatever could be linked subconsciously to a past event. Irrational fears and limiting beliefs are often deep rooted and usually the adult has absolutely no idea why they are so afraid of something or why they find it so hard to achieve their goals.
The subconscious mind – friend or foe?
Ultimately our subconscious mind is there to protect us – so friend but perhaps sometimes in a slightly overprotective way. Sometimes the perceived harm an indvidual’s subconscious is protecting them from might actually be the very thing that is wanted and may not actually be harmful at all. This accounts for a wide range of limiting beliefs and negative behaviour patterns. Adults and children for instance can create link s between feeling loved and eating food, leading to obsession and difficulties with health and subsequently self-esteem. Likewise those who struggle in class or who struggle to move forward in relationships or at work may have underlying reasons why they don’t actually want to take the risk of progression even they are not even aware that is how they feel.
I don’t want to change the way my mind works
EFT is not a ‘mind’ therapy - it will not alter the memory of past events but simply remove or reduce the emotional ‘sting’ enabling the individual to move forward without constantly being tripped up by guilt, desire, anger or fear originating from past experience.
EFT enables people of all ages, including children, to effectively deal with:
| · Emotional / Behavioural Issues | · Sleep Problems | · Stress |
| · Low Self Esteem | · Relationship Issues | · Grief |
…gently peeling away at sometimes layer upon layer of concern like peeling the layers from an onion until the heart of the issue is reached and resolved.
Massage & EFT
EFT is used in conjunction with massage to ease particularly ‘stubborn’ areas of muscular tension most commonly around the neck and shoulders where there is often an emotional aspect to the injury. The majority of neck injuries are due either to stress (hunching of shoulders), or accidents (whiplash, falls etc.), which would encourage the subconscious to retain an element of that pain as a preventative measure. Take away the fear, stress, anxiety ly linked to the original injury and in most cases the muscles will release more readily using massage techniques.
In the vast majority of cases a simple tapping element added into the massage routine will suffice, however some clients require a little more in depth EFT prior to the start of their massage. If you feel this might be applicable to you please enquire at the time of booking.
